Spend New Year’s Eve With Mariah Carey in Times Square—Sort Of
New Year’s Eve might be a bit more low-key than usual for many people this year, but not for the two lucky souls who manage to book Airbnb’s latest offering. They will ring in 2021 in a clear geodesic dome perched on the terrace of Nasdaq MarketSite, which means they’ll have views of the festivities and the annual ball drop. Another, perhaps more exciting, perk is that they will be personally serenaded (though virtually) by Mariah Carey.
Images provided by Airbnb show that the dome is outfitted with multiple chairs and cushions to sit on as well as a bed and two nightstands—though it seems unlikely that the guests will get much sleep. Other perks that come with the experience include $5,000 to be used for shopping in Times Square and on nearby Fifth Avenue; plenty of sparkly hats, glasses, and horns to celebrate with; and dinner prepared by a private chef. The stay is available for one night only.
Booking will be available starting on December 21 at 9 a.m. EST, and this will likely sell out fast. The experience is open to two guests only, and they must be New York City residents. The cost is just $21 (a nod to the new year ahead).
Typically, Times Square is packed with spectators on New Year’s Eve, but this year, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the festivities will be closed to the public. There will still be live musical performances broadcast to those watching at home, however. So far, confirmed performers include Gloria Gaynor (singing her hit “I Will Survive,” which seems apt for this year), Jennifer Lopez, Billy Porter and Cyndi Lauper (doing a Kinky Boots number), and Jimmie Allen.
