Ava DuVernay Asks $2.5 Million for Hollywood Hills Home

A year after buying one of the most expensive homes in Los Angeles’s trendy Los Feliz neighborhood, Ava DuVernay has listed her comparatively modest home in the nearby Hollywood Hills for $2.475 million, Variety reports. She originally bought the 3,600-square-foot property in May 2017, at which time she paid just under $2 million.

The house was built in 1961 and has been updated every few decades since, including a series of renovations under DuVernay’s short ownership. Its four bedrooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms include a luxurious main suite comprising a sitting area, a terrace overlooking L.A., an impressive walk-in closet, and a sunlit bathroom with soaking tub and glass-walled shower.

The rest of the home takes similar advantage of the sweeping views of the city, with skylights dotting the ceiling and floor-to-ceiling glass doors leading to the three terraces wrapping around the hillside property. Bright and modern, the dwelling also includes an open-plan main floor combining the kitchen, dining room, sitting room, and family room; a cozy, dark-walled den; and a bonus room that can be used as a home office or extra bedroom.

The Wrinkle in Time director certainly no longer needs the hillside space: Her new home in Los Feliz sits on a secluded half acre of land and spans more than 6,300 square feet, with five bedrooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms. The Mediterranean-style property, which she bought from The O.C. creator Josh Schwartz in November 2019 for $9.8 million, includes a wine vault, movie theater, and chef’s kitchen in the main house, plus a detached guesthouse, formal gardens, and an Olympic-size saltwater pool.
